ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grassroots politics starts with precinct delegates. Republican success starts with precinct delegates. Precinct delegates are elected by voters in individual precincts and, in turn, delegates serve as a liaison between voters and the Republican Party. Delegates also represent their precinct at Republican conventions.

Elected Delegates will:

  • Help register people to vote and voter education (AV, Early, Poll)
  • Disperse information to voters regarding candidates, ballot measures, and issues
  • Help recruit others to become members of the Republican Party
  • Get Out the Vote efforts (GOTV)
  • Keep elected officials and party members well informed about concerns from constituents

Important Dates/Conventions:

  • District or county party conventions - held in August of September - at these conventions, delegates are elected to the state conversion,  debate and adopt resolutions for recommendations to the state convention's platform committee.
  • State Convention - late September - debate and adopt a state platform, nominate candidates for Supreme Court Justices, State Board of Education, University Boards, and Presidential Electors

HOW TO BECOME A DELEGATE

Republican Precinct Delegates are elected in the August Primary by those who vote on the Republican side of the ballot. Each precinct has an assigned number of delegates based on population.

People wishing to run for precinct delegate MUST fill out the AFFIDAVIT OF IDENTITY for ballot access and have it notorized. They can file with the clerk of their county, city, or township.

Click here to access the Affidavit of Identity This file is also displayed at the bottom of this page.
